Te Wāhipounamu UNESCO Site

A visual identity system for New Zealand's South Island

Timeline: Spring 2025 (6 weeks)

Skills: Adobe ID, PS, AI, AE; Figma

Synopsis

For the duration of this project, we explored the roles of visual systems and how they create the look, feel, and identity of a brand. Our task was to choose a world site of cultural, natural, or historical significance and use what we had learned to create an identity system of our own for the chosen site.

Experience Te Wāhipounamu

Tucked away on the South Island of New Zealand, Te Wāhipounamu encompasses the natural beauty of a region relatively untouched by humans. Spanning over 2.6 million hectares and including four main sites, Te Wāhipounamu is home to countless unique species endemic to New Zealand; natural phenomena such as fjords, glaciers, and mountains; and a rich cultural identity within the Māori people. Final deliverables included a brand guideline slide deck, custom typeface, logo suite, motion exploration, and real-life application of how this identity would live in the wild.
